School Meals

At South Petherwin Primary School our school dinners are provided by Chartwells, the leading provider of primary school meals in the UK.

We aim to promote and encourage balanced eating habits and a healthy lifestyle from an early age. Chartwell's menu supports the core theme of healthy eating within the Healthy Schools programme. Dishes are freshly prepared and cooked on site and the recipes are developed to ensure that they are of the highest nutritional standards.  As a school, we believe that when children eat better they achieve better.   Whether families are paying for school meals or are entitled to them for free, children are more likely to concentrate in the classroom after eating healthy school lunches.  In September 2017, we became proud owners of a compact, but state of the art kitchen which enables us to cook on site.  The new school meals have proved to be very popular and have definitely got the thumbs up from the children (and staff!).

If you have any questions about school meals, please contact Sue Issott Akeroyd, Chartwell's Area Manager, on 07500 881543 or

The children can order their lunch daily.  The cost of a school dinner is £2.30, however, if a child has five meals in a row they get their fifth meal for free.  All cheques should be made payable to 'Chartwells'.
